Who made Spell Puppy?

Spell Puppy was designed and created by two lifelong friends who are not just parents themselves, but also uber-nerds who like to tinker with software! As such, our own young ones had a hand in help designing the application so that it’s fun for all children, even as young as two years old!

Is Spell Puppy safe for my child to use?

We’ve done everything we can to help ensure the safety of your child. Safety features include:

Parental gate. When anyone first tries to change any of the game settings or Word Decks, a prompt will appear instructing the child to ask their parents to complete a task. Upon successful answer only, the parent/guardian will then be forced to set a password. NOTE: If you have forgotten your password, you can hold down the key button for 5-6 seconds, after which the parental gate will be re-activated, the old password erased, and having an opportunity to set a new password.
Password-lock. Prevents your child from adding or altering the Word Decks and Settings. A password is required to change game Difficulty and Image Searches in the Setup screen. A password is also required to alter the Word Decks. NOTE: The only options that don’t require a password are the Audio settings, the Game Types on the main screen, and the Throne Room
Safe-content web search. We use Google Images’ safe-content search when loading images from the web
Clip-Art content. Reduces the possibility of images loaded from the web of being too photo-realistic. This is a way to help you as a parent or guardian to only search for drawings or animation stills.

Whilst this feature was added to allow you to customise the game content to help you with your child’s specific vocabulary needs, we do not take responsibility for any inappropriate content that is uploaded with this feature

Freaquently Asked Questions

Does Spell Puppy send any of my customised game content or data anywhere ?

No. The current version of Spell Puppy does not send any game content or other data to us.

Can I make a Word Deck in Spell Puppy in my own native language ?

The current version of Spell Puppy supports five audio tracks for spelling:

English
French
Afrikaans
Spanish
German

You should still be able to create your own deck, however, you are limited to choosing one of above-mentioned options for Audio.

Nevertheless, more audio tracks (and accompanying Word Decks) will follow soon!

Can I customise the pre-loaded Spell Puppy decks ?

Spell Puppy v1 ships with five decks for:

English
French
Afrikaans
Spanish
German

You can copy and/or modify these decks to your liking, but they cannot be renamed. If you wish to restore the pre-loaded Spell Puppy “Asset” decks, simply swipe right on the deck and choose “Reset”. This will restore the deck to its original state.
